Croseo I Dosbarth Dau / Welcome to Year 2

My name is Mrs Nicola Williams and I am the Year Two teacher. Our aim is to create a structured, stimulating and calm learning environment which promotes active learning where the children are encouraged to be positive in their approach to their learning and we motivate the children to be all that they can. I am very proud to say that I have very professional and dedicated staff within my class who create a very happy, caring and nurturing environment for all children.

We make full use of our outdoor space which includes our outdoor literacy and numeracy areas, willow garden, nature garden and log circle with our story telling chair. The children have access to many outdoor activities such as an adventure playground, running track, a climbing wall and quiet areas. This enables us to promote and instil a healthy attitude to physical activity. Class Two also spend planned days each term working in different outdoor sites which include the village, local beaches and woodland. During these visits all children benefit from natural, physical and outdoor experience where they develop and build skills for life.

The Year Two classroom environment is a very warm, welcoming and bright class with very good facilities, including two laptops and an interactive whiteboard accessible to all pupils. The pupils also have timetabled access to iPads and the laptop trolley throughout the week. Our classroom is organised into different areas which are themed and resourced according to our topic. The classroom has a spacious carpet area for large group circle time sessions and for key lesson introductions. The classroom also has direct access to one of our many outdoor areas.

We encourage the children to bring two healthy snacks to school each day along with a drink of fresh water. Our timetabled PE session is on Wednesday and the children will need a P.E kit on this day.

We endeavour to provide a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum and develop the skills needed for the children’s next step into the juniors.
