Welcome to Waterwynch!

Croeso i Ddosbarth Waterwynch!

In Dosbarth Waterwynch we are looking forward to an exciting year of learning ahead. Mrs Meiring and Mrs Williams are the class teachers and Miss Anita and Mrs Bowmer are the Learning support assistants. Together we work hard to ensure all pupils are supported, challenged, and encouraged to strive to be the best that they can be and reach their full potential. We want to ensure our pupils are happy, confident individuals who aren’t afraid to take risks and enjoy a challenge. We strive to provide an engaging, fun learning environment and deliver our lessons in a creative, hands-on way, using both the indoor and outdoor environments. The children love using our beautiful outdoor area to support their learning and also visiting our local village, the beach and local places of interest.

The children enjoy learning through a topic based approach, learning though practical tasks to ensure concrete understanding. We want our children to question, problem solve and communicate effectively. We build into our lesson planning opportunities for the children to grow in their independence, resilience and in their empathy towards each other as well as time to reflect on their learning.

We promote positive behaviour using dojos, stickers and certificates to encourage kindness, respectfulness, safety and responsibility. Our aim is to develop motivated, happy, ambitious, imaginative and caring pupils.

Homework

The teacher and children plan their homework together, deciding on a number of challenges linked to the Four Purposes. The children are asked to complete a minimum of two activities over a half term. There may be extra tasks that are sent home to provide opportunities to consolidate the learning at school. Weekly spellings are sent home to practise each week so we would appreciate support with these. The children have access to Times Table Rockstars and Hwb with its wealth of programs. Children should regularly read to an adult at home. We would expect this to be undertaken at least three times a week.

Health and Wellbeing

Our P.E, games, health and wellbeing sessions take place on a Monday and Thursday. The children will also participate in swimming lessons during the year. We are very much a healthy and active school and really nurture and encourage the children to take part in extra-curricular sporting clubs as often as possible.

Reading

The skill of reading is very much nurtured and encouraged within Dosbarth Amroth and hence, the children are required to bring their reading books to school every day. They should aim to read at home on a regular basis to further develop their comprehension and confidence. Reading opens doorways – it enhances their language and oracy skills and fires their imagination when writing.
