Meet the Classes

Welcome to Poppit Sands!

Croeso i Ddosbarth Poppit Sands!

Croeso i ‘Poppit Sands’. My name is Mrs Jones and I am the class teacher in ‘Poppit Sands’ class, along with our fabulous LSA’s – Miss Chris and Miss Claire.

We provide a positive learning environment, encompassing fun, inspiring and challenging learning experiences.
Our environment encourages the children to be ambitious capable learners and we love to learn through creative, inspiring and challenging activities.

We strive to develop everyone’s understanding of what it means to be a healthy and confident individual. This is fundamental in the delivery of our RSE curriculum, promoting and encouraging resilience and showing empathy towards others. Every child’s wellbeing is at the heart of our curriculum and we encourage open and fair dialogue, sharing feelings, daily check-ins and a positive and caring environment.

We are fortunate enough to enjoy our own outdoor space, where we explore all areas of our learning in a practical way, developing mathematical understanding, inspiring language and exploring and investigation the world around us. We also spend regular sessions in our willow garden, enjoying outdoor schools and forest schools learning.

Our local area is fundamental in our learning and we enjoy regular visits to local beaches and farms.

Our areas of learning within the classroom provide opportunities for cross-curricular learning, focussed learning activities and continuous provision. This combination ensures skill-based understanding, alongside an ability to apply these skills across the curriculum and into everyday challenges. Our topic based approach includes the opportunities for children to share their ideas and child-centred planning is really important to us, allowing children to take control of their learning.

Homework

The teacher and children plan their homework together, deciding on a number of challenges linked to the Four Purposes. The children are asked to complete a minimum of two activities over a half term. There may be extra tasks that are sent home to provide opportunities to consolidate the learning at school. Weekly spellings are sent home to practise each week so we would appreciate support with these. The children have access to Times Table Rockstars and Hwb with its wealth of programs. Children should regularly read to an adult at home. We would expect this to be undertaken at least three times a week.
