Meet the Classes

Welcome to Swan Lake!

Croeso i Ddosbarth Swan Lake!

We are Mrs McGilloway and Mrs Williams and we work together in Reception class along side our Learning Support Assistants- Miss Lindsey and Miss Alayna. Early years education is where our heart is, where laying the foundations for their future learning holds great importance. Our passion is Outdoor education, this is where we believe children learn best. In their natural environment, children are able to boost their confidence, social skills, communication, motivation, physical skills, self-esteem and have a positive attitude to learning and their well-being.

At Lamphey Primary School we recognise how important those early years are in developing confident and capable lifelong learners. Our motivation comes from successfully developing the interest of all our pupils so that they want to learn. I place great importance upon working from their lead and their interests. Our approach is lively and enthusiastic and we strive to motivate children with stimulating and exciting tasks essentially having fun with all these experiences! We like to plan lots of school visits and get the children out into the community, for example visiting the local farm, the walled gardens, beach visits, etc. Our positive approach to effort and resilience fosters strong, independent and capable learners allowing us to set challenging and realistic targets for children.

In the Early years, we value the learning processes that take place within play, when children refine their work and adapt when faced with a challenge. It is this adaptability and flexibly that prepares them well for a world ahead of them we cannot yet envisage. The Early Years is a strong bedrock for life not just school.

Our PE days are on Mondays. Children must come to school on this day in shoes that they can take off, put on and fasten themselves in order for them to be as independent as possible.

In Reception we have our snack together in the morning and afternoon. We are a Healthy School so children are offered milk or can provide their own water in a named bottle. Children can bring two healthy snacks in a named box. Please ensure if you send grapes that they are chopped vertically.

All children need a P.E. kit comprising of shorts, t-shirt and trainers or daps. Our P.E. day take place on a Monday though we use the field when the weather is fine. Most parents provide a P.E. kit for their child and leave it in school each half term, with it going home to be washed at the end of each half term break.
Each pupil will need a Book Bag which is very useful to contain your child’s reading book/homework (when they are in reception)

If you would like your child to have a school dinner which is cooked on the premises and of very high quality, these are currently £2.25 per day we run a cashless system. Please ask for information regarding setting this up with school admin.
Each day, the children need to bring 2 healthy snacks for the morning/afternoon these need to be labelled. Children are provided with milk and have access to water throughout the day they just need to bring a labelled water bottle.

All children in reception are provided with a reading book. It is expected that parents listen to their children read these books, as well as others books of their own choosing at home. In addition to this, the children have a variety of homework activities sent home on a Friday. This is an opportunity to extend in-school learning, and to work with parents at home.
